TriWest Healthcare Alliance is dedicated to serving the medical needs of veterans and military communities. Founded in 1996, they are administrators of the federal government’s Department of Defense TRICARE program, which provides medical benefits for non-active-duty military.
Active duty service members have always had priority for treatment at the VA. As the number of veterans increased through the 20th century, it became more difficult for retired veterans and military families to receive care in a timely manner. It took many years, but in 1997 the US government established TRICARE for veterans and military families.
TRICARE covers 12 different regions of the US. Each region has an administrative agent known as the lead agent that oversees care for members living in that region. TriWest is one of those administrative agents. It covers the following states and territories: Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
TRICARE does not operate entirely separate from the VA. If you are a TriWest member, the VA can schedule appointments for you with TriWest providers through your local medical treatment facility. You also can make your own appointments, utilizing VA staff for support as much as needed.
Since the Mental Health Parity & Addiction Equity Act of 1996 was passed, providers have been required to offer the same level of benefits for mental health and addiction treatment as they do for medical and surgical issues. TriWest and other TRICARE administrative agents place special emphasis on behavioral health awareness, prevention, and care, due to the unique needs of veterans and military families.
Each individual plan differs, though, and even if your plan does cover drug and alcohol addiction treatment, your care will need to be approved by your insurance provider. Acqua Recovery makes the process of navigating this simple thanks to its in-network relationship with TriWest and TRICARE.
Acqua Recovery is an in-network provider for TriWest. We have undergone rigorous credentialing with TRICARE and contract negotiation to ensure that TriWest and TRICARE clients can receive the most beneficial care at the very best price. We also enjoy a strong working relationship, making the process of verifying your benefits and getting your claim approved simple.
Yes. In order to use TriWest benefits, you must get a referral from the VA.
All plans are different, but you may have to pay a copay for your treatment through TriWest. If you do, you will be billed after treatment through the usual VA billing process.
Acqua Recovery can verify your benefits with TriWest prior to treatment. That means we contact them on your behalf to find out exactly how much you’ll owe after addiction treatment. Simply call us or enter your insurance details on our website to get started.
