What is DXM?A normal dosage of cough syrup has 15 to 30 milligrams of DXM. Most doctors recommend that you do not take more than 30 milligrams over a 24-hour period. It takes between 300 and 1,000 milligrams of DXM to get high. DXM can cause euphoria that ranges from a mild buzz to hallucination or an out-of-body experience. The effects of DXM can last between 30 minutes and five hours. During this time, you may experience extreme hallucinations, paranoia, or even agitation. If you consume too much DXM, your body temperature may rise sharply. You may also feel like a fever is coming on. If you mix DXM with alcohol or other drugs, you could suffer from some severe side effects.
Side Effects of Short and Long-Term DXM UseThere are several side effects of using DXM as a hallucinogen such as:

- Drowsiness or fatigue
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- An overall feeling of anxiety or restlessness
